For most coffee shop owners in the Netherlands, Delta 9 Analytics is a well-known name. Over three-quarters of all coffee shops have a Purpl PRO, the portable testing device that the company introduced to the Dutch market. Under the Delta 9 Media brand, the range of products and services has significantly expanded. The 30th HighLife Cup was the perfect showcase for this success.

Delta 9 Analytics was founded in 2015 and introduced the Sage Analytics Profiler spectrometer to the Netherlands in 2016. This American device quickly provided an indication of the THC and CBD content in a cannabis bud. However, the real game-changer has been the American Purpl PRO. "A revolution in the Dutch cannabis market," says Olaf van Lonkhuizen, co-founder of Delta 9 Analytics.

The Purpl PRO has become a staple in more than three-quarters of Dutch coffee shops, as well as among their suppliers. It allows them to quickly verify the quality of their cannabis, often before purchasing. The biggest winner? The consumer.

According to Van Lonkhuizen, the Purpl PRO has played a crucial role in virtually eliminating contaminated cannabis from the market, as well as cannabis with low potency, such as CBD-treated weed being sold as THC-rich cannabis.

The fact that contaminated cannabis is rarely found in the Netherlands in 2024 is largely thanks to the widespread use of the Purpl PRO. The same goes for weed with synthetic cannabinoids, which in 99% of cases is CBD weed.

Progressive Cannabis Culture

Through a carefully established network of resellers and distributors, Delta 9 Analytics has equipped over 2,550 professionals across Europe with the ability to conduct accurate in-house testing using the Purpl PRO.

Their commitment to innovation and education extends beyond just business, explains Van Lonkhuizen. "It's about fostering a well-informed, respectful, and progressive cannabis culture throughout Europe."

Highlife Cup

"During the International Cannabis Business Conference 2023 in Berlin, we were brainstorming at the bar with Dave de Koning about how to make the Highlife Cup even more special and transparent," shares Van Lonkhuizen. "We discussed how terpene percentages are crucial for the quality and freshness of cannabis and should therefore be included as judging criteria, alongside the usual parameters of aroma, taste, effect, and appearance."

The 30th edition of the Highlife Cup was the perfect opportunity to make a big impact: Delta 9 Media tested and photographed all 183 samples, providing them with detailed information and descriptions. All this information was compiled into several CannaKiosks, which everyone could access during the festive award ceremony on June 6th.

CannaKiosk

Van Lonkhuizen explains, "The CannaKiosk is an information and ordering terminal specifically developed for coffee shops and cannabis stores. Delta 9 Media’s software and designs are personalized and maintained for each shop, allowing you to quickly add new strains or remove old ones. This ensures that customers always have access to an up-to-date menu and can get more information about the products they want to buy. It’s like having a virtual budtender, you could say."

The interest was immense. "We constantly saw people gathered around our kiosks, looking up their entries, discussing them, and comparing them with colleagues and friends. For the first time in the history of the Highlife Cup, all the information about the entries, including reports and photos, was available in real-time at the event." Want to see how it looks? Delta 9’s software with designs, test reports, and photos of all 183 entries is now also available online via this link.

HighLife Cup Winners

The winners of the HighLife Cup didn’t just walk away with the traditional trophy; Delta 9 Media included a framed photo of their winning entry, complete with the test results. These detailed test results also enabled the introduction of two new awards: one for the highest potency hash and one for the highest potency cannabis. Van Lonkhuizen explains, "These awards were given to the entries with the highest terpene percentage combined with the highest THC percentage."

Exceptional Quality

The Delta 9 team looks back on the HighLife Cup with exhaustion but great satisfaction. "We worked hard and with a lot of passion to get everything done on time. It was a privilege to work with the highest quality hash and cannabis available in the Netherlands. We were genuinely impressed by the exceptional quality."

The HighLife organization and participants were thrilled with all the extras, as we heard from attendees and behind the scenes. "We’re proud of what we achieved," says Van Lonkhuizen. "And we especially want to thank Dave for his hard work and open-mindedness. The plans to make next year’s HighLife Cup even more special are already in the works!"
